Valentine’s Day Treats For Your Lockdown Love
Call me cheesy but I love Valentines Day. ♥️👼🏻The pressure to buy useless tat aside - surely a day dedicated to l’Amour in all its forms can only be a good thing?
While an overpriced set menu at a table-for-two, wedged between 47 other tables-for-two isn’t my style (although at this point even that sounds excéllent), I love any excuse to create an occasion. As a child I loved making Valentines for my family and friends, writing faux love cheques (très early noughties) and pretending to be a waitress for my parents’ at-home dinner date. I would obsess over setting the table and making an elaborate pun-filled menu on the family Windows 95. I kind of love that this year is taking us back to that nostalgic simplicity - how to make a cosy night in feel special?
Whether it’s building a solo blanket fort with twinkly glow in the dark stars in a throwback to your 1996 bedroom, an indoor picnic, breakfast in bed, writing an elaborate treasure hunt, taking the time to cook a really delicious meal or watching 90s rom coms…Valentines Day is really just a cute excuse to do something sweet for yourself, your love or your pals.
Especially just now, with fun thin on the ground and when most of us have never appreciated the people in our life more.
One of my favourite campaigns in a lonng time, Bloom & Wild have officially taken a stand against the dozen-roses trope. I love red roses! But I really, really like the message that Valentine’s Day flowers shouldn’t be contrived, just for the sake of it or predictable - they should be personal and genuinely from the heart. Wild and messy like real life and real love.
So if anything, this year’s Vday is a really much needed excuse to tell the ones we love we love them! Here are a few of my favourite at home date night ideas and ways to spoil your Valentines, Galentines, Palentines and Granentines from afar…
Date Night At HOme
Stay In Supper Club
Stay in Supper Club create the most thoughtful handcrafted table setting accessories, with a different monthly theme. I love the idea of transforming my kitchen table with their different lovely kits.
Heather Evelyn
Completely obsessed with Heather’s gorgeous notecards and handwritten message candles. Her latest Valentine’s Day Collection would perfect any table setting.
The Lucky Pineapple Club Cocktail Club
Hayley has done it again - another stunning at-home cocktail kit with mega attention to detail. The Lovers Valentine’s Day Cocktail Party Box comes with 2 cocktail recipes (a Pomegranate & Rose Whiskey Sour & a Pink Paloma), popcorn and pick n’ mix. Serve in gorgeous glassware like their delicate deco coupes, or these green stemmed gin glasses.
Pasta Evangelists
Fed up of cooking the same 5-8 recipes? Call in culinary back-up with a fresh pasta kit by Pasta Evangelists (get 20% off your first order with HELLO20). More and more lovely restaurants are pivoting to offer divine meal kits for special at home dining. We also love Home by Nico with a passion.
Pancakes At Home Kit
This at-home pancake kit by The Breakfast Club AKA “Yellow Beacons of Pancake Filled Hope” sounds just about perfect for a lazy Sunday morning. With toppings to die for.
Vagabond Wine Flight
Vagabond have put together a series of wine flight kits - including this themed Valentine’s Day box. Dubbed “wine tasting on your terms”. I love this as an option for drinking different wines at home without uncorking twenneh bottles.
Virtual Galentine’s Event With Amica
A free all-day event on Galentine’s Day (13th) hosted by Amica (a solo travel community for womxn)! Featuring gentle yoga with Pana Wellness, figure drawing with artist Harlie Briggs and a fluffy pancake cook-along with Ella Carte Food.
The Box 4 2
Well if this isn’t one of the sweetest things I’ve seen in ages.. “The Box 4 2” create brilliant “night in” kits ft. everything you need to create a specific themed date at home. This one is my favourite - with hot chocolates, marshmallow toasting, a themed menu, dreamcatcher making kits and glow in the dark stars. Other kits include “Tuscan Pottery Night” and a carnival theme with fairground inspired games!
All The Young Nudes
My favourite online life drawing club are hosting a big sketchy love-in together on Monday night, online, with some wine, in our PJs. They get extra brownie points for modelling in the snow this week! A super chilled no-pressure way to enjoy life drawing with cool folks around the world. What’s not to love?
the best cards
Amazingly talented Emmy Lupin has designed this gorgeous set of Galentine’s Day cards for sending year-round. Happy Go Lucky always make me smile with their bright designs and these Romeo and Jules Studio scallop edge notecards are *chefs kiss*. Papier always do really beautiful collaborations too.
Puzzle Post is like an escape game in an envelope - you write / photograph / record your message, which will only be revealed by completing the puzzles inside.
