Valentine’s Day Treats For Your Lockdown Love

Call me cheesy but I love Valentines Day. ♥️👼🏻The pressure to buy useless tat aside - surely a day dedicated to l’Amour in all its forms can only be a good thing?

While an overpriced set menu at a table-for-two, wedged between 47 other tables-for-two isn’t my style (although at this point even that sounds excéllent), I love any excuse to create an occasion. As a child I loved making Valentines for my family and friends, writing faux love cheques (très early noughties) and pretending to be a waitress for my parents’ at-home dinner date. I would obsess over setting the table and making an elaborate pun-filled menu on the family Windows 95. I kind of love that this year is taking us back to that nostalgic simplicity - how to make a cosy night in feel special?

Whether it’s building a solo blanket fort with twinkly glow in the dark stars in a throwback to your 1996 bedroom, an indoor picnic, breakfast in bed, writing an elaborate treasure hunt, taking the time to cook a really delicious meal or watching 90s rom coms…Valentines Day is really just a cute excuse to do something sweet for yourself, your love or your pals.

Especially just now, with fun thin on the ground and when most of us have never appreciated the people in our life more.

One of my favourite campaigns in a lonng time, Bloom & Wild have officially taken a stand against the dozen-roses trope. I love red roses! But I really, really like the message that Valentine’s Day flowers shouldn’t be contrived, just for the sake of it or predictable - they should be personal and genuinely from the heart. Wild and messy like real life and real love.

So if anything, this year’s Vday is a really much needed excuse to tell the ones we love we love them! Here are a few of my favourite at home date night ideas and ways to spoil your Valentines, Galentines, Palentines and Granentines from afar…
